The Gratitude kittens were found on Thanksgiving Day, playing in the middle of the road.
Estimated to be 9 weeks old when found, they immediately played with wands, ate churro treats from a hand, and ate food in front of people. This was not typical behaviour of feral-born kittens of this age.
Thanks to a quick-thinking community member who saw them and stopped to investigate. She quickly covered them with her sweater, scooped them up, and placed them in a box she had in her car.
How did they end up on a rural country road? The possibilities are quite concerning. Did someone abandon them? Many people searched for more kittens, but none were found. Both kittens had a few medical issues: Brussel Sprout had a very large hernia, and Cranberry was suffering from severe diarrhea. It was decided that the kittens would be better off fostered in Nanaimo, close to the vet, so their medical needs can be closely monitored.
It was a pleasure to host these kittens for a few short weeks on their journey to adoption.
