Compassionate Foster Care
Salt Spring Cat Orphanage is a small, foster-based kitten rescue dedicated to caring for kittens who need extra support during their most critical early days. From fragile neonatal kittens to orphaned litters and pregnant feral moms, we step in where help is needed most—providing specialized care and a safe place to grow.
Our Mission
At Salt Spring Cat Orphanage, our mission is to provide compassionate, specialized foster care for the most vulnerable felines—particularly orphaned and neonatal kittens, as well as pregnant feral mothers in need of a safe place to give birth and recover.
By focusing on kittens requiring additional care, we help free up foster homes within our rescue partner network, allowing more cats and kittens to be rescued and supported throughout our community.
Our commitment goes beyond rescue. Through education, advocacy, and outreach, we raise awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering, and share guidance on what to do when kittens are found alone or appear abandoned.
What We Do
Specialized Foster Care
We provide round-the-clock care for kittens who are too young, sick, or vulnerable for traditional foster homes, including neonatal kitten support.
Support for Rescue Partners
By taking on the most complex cases, we enable our rescue partners to expand their reach and save more lives.
Care for Feral Moms & Their Kittens
We offer safe, quiet foster spaces for pregnant and nursing feral cats, improving outcomes for both mothers and babies.
Education & Community Outreach
We share knowledge about kitten rescue, responsible pet ownership, and how to respond when you find kittens in your community.
Why it Matters
Each year during kitten season, many kittens are born without the care they need to survive. Neonatal and orphaned kittens require intensive feeding, medical attention, and constant monitoring.
By focusing on these high-need cases, our kitten rescue helps reduce preventable loss of life while supporting the broader rescue community.
Abandoned Kittens?
Not all kittens found outdoors are truly abandoned. In many cases, their mother is nearby and caring for them.
Before intervening, it’s important to assess the situation carefully. We provide guidance on when to step in—and when to give mom a chance to return. Abandoned Kittens
